Children’s Nebraska Earns Fifth Consecutive Magnet® Recognition and Magnet® with Distinction

Children’s Nebraska has earned Magnet® recognition from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) for the fifth consecutive time. For the first time, we also received Magnet® with Distinction – an honor given to hospitals that perform at the very highest level. Fewer than 70 hospitals in the United States have earned this recognition, placing Children’s Nebraska among the nation’s top pediatric hospitals.

What Is Magnet® Recognition?

Magnet® recognition is the highest honor a hospital can receive for nursing care. It shows that the hospital:

  • Provides excellent care for patients

  • Supports strong nursing leadership

  • Encourages nurses to grow and stay engaged in their work

Magnet® with Distinction goes further. It recognizes hospitals that exceed these standards and are among the nation’s best for nursing care, patient safety and outcomes. Hospitals that achieve Magnet® with Distinction consistently demonstrate:

  • High nurse engagement and job satisfaction

  • Low registered nurse turnover

  • Strong clinical outcomes and patient experience

  • A culture where professional growth, innovation and excellence are expected

Why This Matters for Families

When your child receives care at Children’s Nebraska, you can trust that they are cared for by highly skilled and compassionate nurses. Research shows that children treated at Magnet® hospitals:

  • Have better health outcomes

  • Experience fewer complications and safety issues

  • Receive care with clear and effective communication

“This extraordinary recognition affirms the strength of our nursing team and the high quality of care they provide for children and families,” said Chanda Chacón, MPH, FACHE, president & CEO of Children’s Nebraska. “This honor belongs to our outstanding nurses and speaks to the culture of collaboration, compassion and accountability they have built.”

“Achieving Magnet® with Distinction is a historic milestone and among the highest honors in nursing,” said Pam Johnson-Carlson, DNP, RN, NE-BC, senior vice president and chief nursing officer at Children’s. “This achievement reflects the unwavering dedication of our nurses and nurse practitioners, whose leadership, engagement and compassion elevate the care we deliver every day. Our nursing team is deeply rooted in the values of the profession – not only through the expertise they bring to patient care, but also through the systems they build that embody transformational leadership at every level, strong professional engagement and a consistent pursuit of excellence in outcomes.
