For over 15 years, Children’s Nebraska has offered an American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) accredited Post-Graduate Year 1 (PGY1) pharmacy residency program. The purpose of the program is to build on the Doctor of Pharmacy education to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists who are responsible for medication-related care of patients with a ride range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for PGY2 pharmacy residency training if interested.

The pharmacy residency program at Children’s is a unique practice experience, as it takes place in a standalone pediatric hospital. As a resident, you will rotate through various practice settings and assume responsibility for all aspects of patient drug therapy including:

  • Assessing and monitoring medication use
  • Advising physicians and healthcare providers on appropriate medication use
  • Providing pharmacokinetic consulting
  • Attending and participating in rounds
  • Conducting patient interviews and patient medication counseling

You will also have the opportunity to serve as a preceptor for pharmacy students, participate in lectures, and provide formal presentations to other healthcare providers and staff.
