Children’s Nebraska provides a unique American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) accredited Post-Graduate Year 1 (PGY1) pharmacy residency program in a 225-bed standalone pediatric hospital. We are the only full-service pediatric specialty health care center in Nebraska, also offering pediatric primary care and more than 40 outpatient specialty clinics. Patients are referred from throughout the region for the treatment of complex or unusual diseases.

As a resident, you will rotate through various practice settings and assume responsibility for all aspects of patient drug therapy including:
- Assessing and monitoring medication use
- Advising physicians and healthcare providers on appropriate medication use
- Providing pharmacokinetic consulting
- Attending and participating in rounds
- Conducting patient interviews and patient medication counseling
Residents also serve as a preceptor for pharmacy students, participate in lectures, and provide formal presentations to other healthcare providers and staff.

Additional Training & Educational Experiences
Becoming a successful pharmacist requires more than participating in rotations. In order to provide a well-rounded education, our program also includes:
- Membership on the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee
- Medication safety and drug policy development
- Drug utilization evaluation
- Code training and experience/BLS Certification/PALS Certification
- Precepting and didactic lecture opportunities at Creighton University School of Pharmacy and Health Professions and University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Pharmacy
- Teaching certificate program in conjunction with Creighton University
Staffing
Our resident is required to work one evening per week and two shifts every fourth weekend. This experience helps integrate didactic and patient care knowledge into actual day-to-day practice of pharmaceutical care in a hospital setting. Additionally, the resident staffs one summer holiday (Memorial Day) and one winter holiday (rotates annually). There is no on-call requirement.
Benefits
Residents will receive 17 days paid vacation (12 PTO days allowed to meet residency requirements with remaining days paid out at end of year), six paid holidays, medical/dental insurance, employee wellness program, professional travel allowance, pediatric advanced life support certification, and paid membership to ASHP.
Pharmacy Residency Application
There is one PGY1 pharmacy resident position available each year. We will be conducting on-site interviews with the option for a virtual interview if travel is not possible. Candidates must meet the following criteria to qualify for the position:
- Graduate of an accredited College or School of Pharmacy
- Doctor of Pharmacy
- Licensure or eligibility for licensure in Nebraska
