Nurse Residency Program At Children’s: Ambulatory Track

At Children’s Nebraska, we strive to provide nurses with excellent, comprehensive, education and training. We are committed to ensuring that you are part of a program that meets your individual needs and interests.

That is why our Nurse Residency Program offers two ambulatory tracks for residents to choose from: Primary Care or Specialty Practice. The Ambulatory Track is for graduate nurses who have an Associate or Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Program Structure & Curriculum

Upon hire, you will complete new orientation for employees and attend our skills validation course in our clinical skills lab. After the skills lab you will begin orientation to pediatric nursing with a preceptor in your new area.

The Nurse Residency Program is one year long that has monthly cohort meetings. Your start date for the Nurse Residency Program will be dependent on your orientation schedule. Content for the program focuses on incorporating these key concepts into your practice:

  • Family-centered care
  • Pediatric growth and development
  • Nursing care for common conditions
  • Professionalism

Program activities are engaging using case studies, simulation, and creative learning such as an escape room. All activities promote the development of your critical thinking skills to anticipate pediatric patient care needs. Each cohort meeting includes time for debriefing and coping skills. Support is a key element in developing self-assurance.
