You will gain knowledge and experiences needed to complete your degree and begin an advanced career in your chosen field.

At Children’s Nebraska, the Advanced Practice Providers are represented in all specialty areas, providing comprehensive evidenced-based care to patients and families. The providers deliver a broad range of essential services, both patient and non-patient facing. The leadership team for the Advanced Practice Providers is experienced and very dedicated to this talented workforce.
Eligibility & Priority for Approval
Applications for precepted experiences are approved based on preceptor resources and availability. Student resources must be properly approved through the Children’s Office of Education Department.
Who is eligible for the Advanced Practice Provider (APP) or Graduate Nursing student clinical experience?
All APP or graduate nursing student clinical experiences must be pre-approved before initiating the experience. The Office of Education manages the pre-approval process for Physician Assistant students, nurse practitioners, and other graduate nursing students.
A contract between Children’s and the student’s graduate college is required before the experience is initiated. Students must complete pre-requisite assessments and training before starting their precepted experience.
What is the priority for approving APP and graduate nursing student clinical requests?
Employees who are APP or graduate nursing students will be given priority in their requests for student experiences.
Physician providers may precept APP or graduate nursing students of their choice as long as the student follows all other requirements listed on this website.
What type of nurse practitioner programs are supported by Children’s?
Children’s Nebraska supports the following nurse practitioner student programs:
- Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP)
- Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, Acute Care (PNP-AC)

Areas Involved in the Rotation Program
Physician Assistant Student Experience with a Provider Preceptor
Children’s supports the education of eligible Physician Assistant (PA) students through primary care and specialty care experiences. All rotations must be pre-coordinated through the Office of Education and the school of record. Questions may be directed to [email protected].
Nurse Practitioner Student Experiences with a Provider Preceptor
Applications for precepted experiences approved based on preceptor resources and availability. There is a minimum requirement of 50 hours of clinical precepting time requested. All rotations must be pre-coordinated through the Office of Education — this office will reach out to managers and preceptors for preceptor approvals — students are not permitted to do this in advance. - Children’s Physicians’ Primary Care Offices
- Children’s Specialty Pediatric Center (SPC)
- Numerous outpatient specialty clinics with care provided by specialty providers from Children’s Specialty Physicians. Specialty care and expertise in the treatment of children from newborn through teen are the focus of Children’s Specialty Physicians. They are the largest group of pediatric specialists in the region with more than 160 experienced physicians who have advanced specialization and board certification in a wide range of medical and surgical specialties unique to the care of children.

MSN–Nursing Education, MSN-Nursing Admin, MSN Nursing Informatics Experiences with a Nurse Leader, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Clinical Education Specialist, Clinical Informaticist
Nursing leaders (Directors or Clinical Managers), Clinical Nurse Specialists or Clinical Education Specialists (MSN in Nursing Education or Admin) or Clinical Informaticists are available to provide supervised clinical instruction upon request.

Masters of Nursing and Doctoral Nursing Program Applicants
For experiences with a provider at Children’s Nebraska in the hospital, Children’s Specialty Pediatric Center (SPC), or Children’s Physicians clinic, preceptors will be provided as they are available. Student must apply online.

All fields in the application must be completed. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Students may apply throughout the year as they enter their programs of study. To understand future semester deadlines, please see the following:
- Spring (January thru May): Applications due no later than October 1st
- Summer (May thru August): Applications due no later than February 1st
- Fall (August thru December): Applications due no later than June 1st
The applications will be pulled each semester approximately 3 months prior to the start of the semester to determine approval/denials with a Match Day conducted by the APP Director, Supervisor of the APP’s, OED Director, OED Nursing Ed. Program Coordinator, Academic Program Coordinator, and the NP Supervisor of CP clinics. Any applications made past the deadline for the semester currently in review will be denied.

Applicants will be approved based on preceptor resources and availability. Notifications of acceptance will be sent within a few weeks after the deadline.
