Human Milk and Formula Lab

The Hubbard Nutrition Center (Human Milk & Formula Lab) ensures top-quality preparation of human milk and formula to support your child's growth and healing.

Milk for Hospitalized Infants

At Children’s Nebraska, we provide the gold standard in human milk and formula preparation. Our centralized Milk and Formula Lab, located on the 7th floor in the NICU, is designed to ensure the highest level of care and safety for your child’s nutrition.

Certified nutrition technicians handle all milk preparation, ensuring feedings are measured accurately and prepared with the utmost cleanliness. We utilize industrial-grade refrigeration and freezers for safe milk storage and adhere to recommended storage times for hospitalized infants.

Our specialized milk tracking software monitors every step of the process—from the moment milk is pumped, through storage and fortification, to the time it is fed—ensuring precision and safety at every stage.

Information for Pumping Mothers

Labeling and Storage
All pumped milk must have a label with the date and time. You'll receive labels for your milk bottles, along with storage bottles to keep everything safe and organized. Our team will guide you on proper labeling and storage techniques to ensure everything is handled correctly.

Convenient Collection Service
Our nutrition technicians will collect your pumped milk from you. They will take it to the lab for preparation and proper storage.

48-Hour Freshness Protocol
Your milk will be fed, prepared, or frozen within 48 hours of pumping to ensure optimal safety and nutrition.

Fresh Milk Priority
If your baby doesn’t need anything added, they can have your freshly pumped milk before it’s frozen. This ensures they get the most nutritional benefits.
