About Ahmad Halawa, MD

Dr. Ahmad Halawa is an ophthalmologist at Children’s Nebraska and an assistant professor in the UNMC Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. He specializes in pediatric ophthalmology, strabismus and neuro-ophthalmology, a rare subspecialty focused on complex neurological conditions affecting the eyes.

Dr. Halawa completed his medical training and ophthalmology residency at the University of Jordan. He then relocated to the United States, completing fellowships in both neuro-ophthalmology and pediatric ophthalmology at the University of Michigan.

Driven by a passion for helping children see better, Dr. Halawa focuses clinically on treating double vision, misaligned eyes and optic nerve disorders like optic neuritis, optic nerve swelling and idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH). Because complex neuro-ophthalmological conditions often require a multidisciplinary approach, he collaborates closely with colleagues across neurology, neurosurgery and radiology to provide comprehensive care.

Dr. Halawa is dedicated to patient-centered, evidence-based care. He prioritizes getting to know each family personally, ensuring parents leave the clinic with a clear understanding of their child's treatment plan.
