About John H. Makari, MD

I’m John Makari. I’m a pediatric urologist and the section chief for pediatric urology at Children’s. Urology is a unique combination of surgical and medical diagnoses and care. Pediatric urologists themselves work with patients that have both short-term and chronic conditions. It’s that mix of medical and surgical care that I’ve really enjoyed. From the standpoint of pediatric urology specifically, I find it particularly rewarding to take care of children who may have an anatomic abnormality at birth that we can intervene upon and help them for a lifetime. That really has a long-term, lasting benefit. Then, there are patients that simply need care throughout their life, and it’s rewarding to develop those relationships with patients and take care of them from infancy through adulthood. Within our group, we’re growing to provide more extensive care both locally and throughout the community. We’re expanding our outreach services. We’re expanding our advanced practice provider contingency. We’re providing more specialized nursing care in pediatric urology. We’re doing more collaboration with other divisions within the hospital. I hope that patients trust me because of my experience and knowledge in pediatric urology. But on the other end of the spectrum, I’m also a parent, and I understand what parents and patients are going through when they come to see the doctor and how frightening of an experience that can potentially be. I’ve also seen the other side, and I know that kids do well, and we can provide good quality of care for children.
