About Paul J. Rychwalski, MD

Dr. Paul J. Rychwalski is a board-certified pediatric ophthalmologist and eye surgeon and the division chief of ophthalmology at Children’s Nebraska. With over 25 years of experience, Dr. Rychwalski specializes in the diagnosis and management of pediatric eye diseases, strabismus, retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) and ocular trauma.

 

In his current roles at the Truhlsen Eye Institute and the University of Nebraska Medical Center, Dr. Rychwalski serves as professor of ophthalmology and pediatrics and director of pediatric ophthalmology. He combines patient care with academic leadership. His research focuses on ROP telemedicine and screening, pediatric retinal glaucoma and innovative surgical techniques in pediatric ophthalmology. He has been a principal investigator for the Pediatric Eye Disease Investigator Group (PEDIG) and has contributed to numerous clinical trials, including the Early Treatment for Retinopathy of Prematurity (ETROP) study.

 

Dr. Rychwalski’s career spans national and international appointments, including leadership roles at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland and Abu Dhabi. He has been widely recognized for his contributions, receiving honors such as the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s Honor Award and America’s Top Ophthalmologists.

 

Committed to education, Dr. Rychwalski has mentored countless trainees and developed novel teaching tools for resident and fellow instruction. His expertise has been featured in over 100 peer-reviewed publications, book chapters and presentations worldwide.

 

Beyond medicine, Dr. Rychwalski enjoys trekking, cycling, reading and fly-fishing.
