About Afshin Salehi, MD, MS, FAANS
Afshin Salehi, MD, MS, specializes in pediatric neurosurgery. Dr. Salehi received a Bachelor of Science, Master of Science and completed his Medical Doctorate at the University of California, San Diego. He completed his internship and residency in neurological surgery at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. During his residency he spent 6 months in Ireland as a specialist registrar at Dublin Beaumont Hospital. He also spent 18 months as a post doctorate fellow in the lab of Albert H. Kim, studying the biological effect of laser interstitial thermal therapy on blood brain barrier. Following his residency, Dr. Salehi performed fellowship training in pediatric neurosurgery at St. Louis Children’s Hospital in St. Louis Missouri.
Dr. Salehi’s research interests are preclinical model development and testing brain cancer therapeutics using laser and nanoparticles with his developed mouse LITT model. His clinical interests include: Pediatric epilepsy, use of minimally invasive techniques for diagnostic studies of epileptogenic zones including sEEG, and utilization of neurosurgical robotics, Laser Interstitial Thermal Therapy (LITT) for treatment of epilepsy and pediatric tumors, Craniofacial, Hydrocephalus, Intra-uterine fetal surgeries.
