My name is Janie Mikuls, and I’m a pediatrician at Children’s Physicians, West Village Pointe. I would hope that [patients and parents] would say that I listen. That’s something that I’ve actually really worked on the last several years — listening to both parents and the child. With a child over 2 years old, you get a lot of information from them. I listen and gain what I need to know from that. At any moment, I feel like I have anyone I can call within the Children’s system to say I have this kind of a problem or that kind of a problem. There’s a real collaborative effort at Children’s now to work with families and get things done quickly and efficiently, and we definitely have the resources to do that through Children’s Physicians. It’s just all about the kids. Especially with families that I’ve cared for for many, many years, I’m at a stage in my practice where I have a lot of my own patients who are having children, and that’s great fun, so I know not only the parents but the grandparents and everybody. That really does make a difference when you understand a family and you understand their dynamics and how they work. It’s great to work with those people.
