About
My name is Nathan Gollehon, and I’m a neonatologist at Children’s.
Neonatology got onto my radar when I was going through my residency training. I can actually remember various specific moments when I was taking care of a tiny, fragile baby in the NICU. The provider I was working with — who is still a mentor for me — said, “This is something you’re good at, you should think about doing this.” From there, everything just kind of lined up for me.
I would hope that families would describe me as a collaborator. I really think our job as physicians is to make sure that families understand what’s happening with their children and their babies. In our case, we have a whole group of people that are really dedicated towards making sure that families get the support that they need when their babies are in the hospital with us.
We get the sickest and most fragile kids at this hospital. So, having an opportunity to see these kids thrive and go home to their families … if we’re doing our job right, that’s incredibly rewarding. It’s what keeps my fire burning and keeps me coming back every day.
