My name is Patrick Thomas. I am a Pediatric Surgeon at Children’s.

I graduated from the School of Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, where I also completed my General Surgery training. I completed my Pediatric Surgery fellowship at Texas Children’s Hospital at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. I served as the Medical Director of Information Services for Surgery and have received multiple hospital-based service and leadership awards.

Nationally, I have served as the chair of the EPIC Pediatric General Surgery National Steering Board charged to create gold standard surgical protocols and workflows to optimize the care of children on a global scale.

I am a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and board-certified in General and Pediatric Surgery. I am a digital health technology enthusiast and strategist, embracing the development and deployment of digital therapeutics, AI integration in pediatric health care, expansion of XR-based initiatives in medical education, and patient centered-designed engagement and education activities.

My additional responsibility is Children’s Director of Digital Innovation in Pediatric Surgery.

I was surprised that I am the first person to write a negative review. Dr. Thomas comes off a fun and patient centered at first but when my daughter had to go to ER 12 hours after her appointment with him came from his office to the ER where he was not even on duty as the ER physician he was condescending & rude told us coming to the ER wouldn't be helpful because they don't perform emergency Gallbladder attacks. Blamed her diet and said gallbladder attacks only happen if she is eating fat. For a 15 year old to go over 3 weeks with zero fat is nearly impossible. She was prescribed a zero fat diet and shamed when she consumed a high fat meal. Waited so long for something to be done ever liver enzymes were abnormal, iron was at a 8.7 . He still waited almost 5 days to sign his Drs orders so the scheduler could get us on his schedule. Nursing staff said they contacted him and said it could take days for him to sign notes and orders. I worked healthcare many years and know that notes need to be completed within 24 hours. I was highly disappointed in his arrogant condescending personality. He also need to maybe do more research and future schooling to understand that the gallbladder attacks don't only occur when fatty food is ingested, if it has inflammation and having colic spasms it can be due to it fasting, inflammation severe no matter what a person eats it will flare up .

Absolutely top-notch! Dr. Thomas is a true expert—skilled, confident, and incredibly kind. He took the time to explain everything clearly and ease any worries we had. If we are ever in need of pediatric surgery again, he will be my requested physician. The clinical and surgical staff? Simply amazing!! Friendly faces, quick to help, and always making sure we were comfortable and informed. Children’s hospital has some amazing talented staff. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience!

So far we love this hospital. It has been wonderful and the doctor is very helpful and totally made my daughter relax while we were at her visit. Nothing to worry about.
