Kelsey’s Story: Eating Disorder Recovery Inspires Career
Thanks to the skilled and caring team at Children’s Nebraska, Kelsey is healthier — and happier — than ever before. Not only did she get better, she also discovered her life’s work.

Sep. 3, 2025
As a teen, Kelsey’s eating disorder and related struggles seemed like an uphill battle. But when Kelsey and her mother turned to the Behavioral Health & Wellness experts at Children’s Nebraska, they found a dedicated team ready to help.
“I wasn’t in good shape medically or mentally,” recalls Kelsey. “I remember my mom saying, ‘Are you finally ready to go?’ And while I was ready to get medical help, when it came to facing the eating disorder part of it, it was a completely different story.”
A New Purpose
Years later, in 2023, a healthier, happier Kelsey returned to Children’s to work as a pediatric behavioral health technician, with a passion for helping kids with eating disorders or who are struggling with self-harm find a way forward.
Kelsey’s firsthand experience also helps her understand and support family members who want to help, but don’t know how. Meeting them where they are, Kelsey acknowledges the all-consuming feelings families can experience when a loved one is in treatment. But she also has the privilege of reminding them it’s just a point in time — and that things will get better.
“Recovery takes time and hard work, but I’m living proof it’s possible,” Kelsey says.
