Children’s new online community offers an easy way for families to provide feedback

Feedback from families plays an incredibly important role in shaping the patient experience at Children’s Nebraska. That is why the hospital recently launched the Share & Connect online community.

We are growing rapidly, and as we grow, it’s critical that we make sure the services we provide are beneficial and relevant to families. All aspects of the care experience are important in shaping our program development, and that’s why we involve our families in that development.

Share & Connect is an easy way for families of patients to play a role in the care they and others in the Children’s community receive. To join, simply visit and fill out a quick survey. If you qualify, you will then be able to respond to topics in the Share & Connect community.

“Think of it like a private Facebook group,” Lytle explains. A moderator at Children’s will regularly post topics that they are looking for input on and you can give your opinion, as well as respond to other users’ feedback. Different from Facebook, however, members pick their usernames, so they can be anonymous.

In addition to playing an important role in helping shape the experience families and others will have at Children’s, community members will also accrue points for responses that can be used for rewards, such as Amazon or Visa gift cards. And responses can be posted from a smartphone, tablet, laptop or desktop computer, making it easy to fit into a busy day. It’s a win-win, Lytle explains. “If you’re already spending time online, you can quickly provide a response that helps make Children’s better,” she says. “Because we value your time, you’ll get something tangible from it.”

For Lytle, the open dialogue and rewards Share & Connect offers help reinforce how important families and their experiences are to Children’s.

“We appreciate the willingness of families to partner with us to improve the experience, not just for themselves but for others,” she says. “It’s so important for us to learn what’s working and what’s not working. We know families are incredibly busy. It’s a privilege that they would spend time to help guide us.”
